I look out on the ever changing sea from where I live in the far west of Cornwall. Boats pass by, sometimes visible sometimes disappearing in the mist. Light bounces off the water and rain fronts come in, often bounded by rainbows. Birds soar on the wind and the endless sound of waves on the shore reaches my ears. Inspiration comes easily in such a place, if you let it.
I go for lots of walks, always carrying my sketchbook. I also make drawings from memory and imagination. In the studio I like to build up layers of paint in my work, cutting through and repainting areas. I think this reflects the transience I find in the world around me and the fact there is so much that most of the time we don’t even see.
